Deep beneath the estate, inside the subterranean titanium vault, the heavy steel door remained sealed.
Graham Pike sat in total darkness, his tailored suit ruined, his fingers clawing desperately at the smooth metal walls. He had food and water dropped through a small slot once a day, but no human contact, no light, and no way out. The empire he had tried to steal had evolved past him, leaving him buried alive in the very dungeon he had helped design for others.
Above ground, the Shaw family gathered in the courtyard for a quiet Sunday dinner—the first real family dinner in over a decade. No guards standing shoulder-to-shoulder with drawn weapons. No whispered threats across the table. Just laughter, clinking glasses, and the bright, infectious sound of a little girl chasing a stray golden retriever across the manicured lawn.
Declan poured a glass of wine, raising it toward Aaron and Mia.
