Chapter 20 - The Final Lullaby

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the evening sky in brilliant strokes of gold, violet, and amber.

The estate was quiet now, the guests having gone home, leaving behind only the gentle rustle of the autumn breeze through the garden trees. Inside the warm, sunlit nursery, Declan sat in a comfortable rocking chair, holding little Penny as her eyelids grew heavy and her breathing slowed into a peaceful rhythm.

She clutched her wooden music box in one hand, the tiny tinny melody playing softly in the quiet room—the exact same lullaby their mother used to hum during winter storms so many years ago.

"Uncle Declan?" Penny whispered sleepily, her green eyes barely flickering open.

"Yes, Penny?" Declan asked softly, gently brushing a stray lock of dark hair from her forehead.

"Are you going to stay forever?"

Declan looked down at the child who had accidentally wandered into a ballroom full of monsters and accidentally called a cold, merciless boss 'Papa'—changing the entire trajectory of his life forever.

He tightened his arms around her, a profound sense of peace washing over his soul.

"Forever, little one," Declan whispered, kissing the top of her head. "I'm not going anywhere."

As the last notes of the music box faded into the silence of the night, the mafia boss closed his eyes, knowing that he had finally found the only empire that truly mattered.
