Chapter 1 - The Footage That Changes EverythingThe silence inside Bellamy House was absolute. You could hear the hum of the high-end industrial refrigerators through the kitchen doors and the frantic, shallow breathing of Dorian Pike.

Callum Ashford didn't raise his voice. He didn't need to. As the primary stakeholder and principal financial backer of the entire Bellamy restaurant group—not to mention half the downtown real estate—his quietest whisper carried the weight of an avalanche.

"Mr. Pike," Callum said, his gaze fixed on the restaurant manager. "I asked you a direct question. Do you have security cameras in this dining room?"

Dorian’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. His eyes darted nervously from Callum to Lenora, who was now clutching the strap of her Chanel bag as if it were a life raft.

"Callum, this is absurd," Lenora snapped, her voice rising in a desperate pitch to regain control of the narrative. "You are interrogating the manager like a common detective over a clumsy waitress who deliberately spilled sparkling water onto my vintage silk gown! Everyone here saw it!"

Callum turned his head slowly. The look in his eyes made Lenora take an involuntary half-step backward.

"Every single person in this room," Callum said, his voice dropping into a dangerous register, "is a prominent member of Chicago society who values their reputation, their board seats, and their standing. I know exactly how this works, Lenora. They were looking at their plates, their phones, or their napkins because they didn't want to get involved in your pathetic, vicious temper tantrums. But security cameras don't look away. Security cameras don't care about your charity galas or your social calendar."

He turned back to Dorian. "I want the feed from the last ten minutes. Encrypted, backed up, and sent directly to my private server before I walk out of these doors. If one second of footage is missing, Mr. Pike, you won't just be looking for a job in this city—you won't even be able to get hired as a dishwasher."

"Right away, Mr. Ashford!" Dorian choked out, practically tripping over his own Italian leather shoes as he bolted toward the manager’s office.

On the floor, Marin was shivering. The initial shock of the scalding liquid was giving way to a searing, throbbing agony across her cheek and neck. The expensive cashmere of Callum’s suit jacket wrapped around her shoulders offered a strange contrast to the humiliation burning inside her.

"Here," Callum said, kneeling back down as a busboy nervously approached with a tray holding a bowl of cool water and sterile gauze. "Hold this gently against your neck, Marin. Don't rub."

Marin looked up through a haze of pain, her eyes wide with shock. "Mr... Mr. Ashford. You know my name?"

Callum’s expression softened momentarily, though the fury in his eyes remained directed at the room. "You’ve served our private dinners four times this month, Marin. I pay attention to the people who work in the businesses I own. Unlike some people."

He shot a final, freezing glare at his wife.

"Callum, we are leaving. Right now," Lenora hissed, her face flushed with a mixture of rage and mounting panic. "If you humiliate me in front of the board members' wives, I swear to God—"

"You have already humiliated yourself, Lenora," Callum interrupted, standing up to his full, imposing height. He didn't look at her. He pulled out his phone, his fingers flying across the screen. "Director of Security? Yes, this is Callum Ashford. Send a car around to the rear entrance of Bellamy House immediately. And call Dr. Marcus. Tell him to meet us at Northwestern Memorial Emergency. We have a severe thermal burn case coming in."

He hung up, looked down at Marin, and extended a strong, steady hand.

"Can you stand?"

Marin gripped his hand. With a wince, she pulled herself up from the marble floor. The room watched in stunned silence as the billionaire husband of the woman who had committed the assault escorted the injured waitress past the twenty-three frozen socialites, straight out through the kitchen service exit, leaving Lenora Ashford standing alone in her winter-white Chanel, entirely abandoned.
