Chapter 14 - Kidnapped in Plain Sight

Two guards grabbed my arms, pinning me before I could scream. Ethan lunged forward with explosive power, slamming his fist into the first guard’s face, knocking him senseless. But Vance stepped in, striking Ethan across the back of the knee with a heavy tactical baton.
Ethan fell to one knee, groaning in pain, but he reached out, his fingers brushing the hem of my dress as I was dragged toward the rear exit.
"Ethan!" I screamed, kicking wildly against the guard's grip.
"Ava!" Ethan roared, trying to force himself up despite Vance pinning his shoulders. "I'll find you! I swear to God, I will find you!"
A heavy black hood was shoved over my head, cutting off my sight. Darkness consumed me once more.
I was thrown into the back of a moving vehicle. The hum of the engine signaled we were traveling at high speed. For hours, no one spoke. The fear that had once paralyzed me during my abusive days with Julian was gone—replaced by a white-hot anger. I refused to be a helpless victim again.
When the hood was finally yanked off, I was tied to an iron chair inside a pristine, subterranean medical facility. Rows of glass tanks filled with advanced medical equipment lined the walls.
Walking down the center aisle, holding an IV drip, was a man in a doctor's lab coat.
When he turned around, my heart nearly stopped.
It was Dr. Adrian Vaughn.
Not Julian Vance—the fake brother. This man’s face was covered in surgical scars, his left eye pale and blind, but his expression carried an intense, terrifying intelligence.

"Hello, Ava," he rasped, his voice damaged. "I believe you met my idiot twin brother, Julian."
The real Dr. Adrian Vaughn was alive.
