Chapter 16 - The Infiltration

Meanwhile, in the federal holding facility in downtown Manhattan, Ethan Carter sat in an interrogation room, handcuffed to a steel table. Across from him sat two high-ranking FBI directors presenting mountain-loads of fake financial logs linking Ethan to organ trafficking.
"I don't care about the money!" Ethan slammed his bound hands against the steel table, the noise ringing through the room. "Victoria Carter has kidnapped Ava Bennett! She is holding her in an illegal medical site right now!"
"Save it for the judge, Mr. Carter," the lead agent replied coldly. "The paper trail is airtight."
The lights in the interrogation room suddenly flickered and died.
Emergency alarms hummed through the building. The electronic door lock clicked open, and the heavy steel door swung inward. Standing in the doorway was Vance—bleeding from a fresh gunshot wound to his side, holding a suppressed pistol.
Ethan glared at him. "Come to finish the job?"
"I took the bullet for your stepmother's lies long enough," Vance grunted, tossing a key onto the table to unlock Ethan's handcuffs. "Victoria double-crossed me. She had my family taken hostage two hours ago to burn all witnesses. You're the only one with enough private firepower to get them back."

Ethan unlocked his wrist restraints, standing up to his full height, his eyes burning with lethal determination. "Where is Ava?"
"An abandoned military bunker off the coast of Montauk," Vance said, handing Ethan a loaded sidearm and a tactical vest. "We have twenty minutes before Adrian cuts her open."
