Chapter 6 - The Glass Room Showdown

"He’s going to cut the line!" I screamed, slamming my hands against the reinforced glass.

Ethan didn't hesitate. He grabbed a heavy metal fire extinguisher from the wall bracket, stepped back, and slammed it with all his strength into the emergency lock of the gallery door. The lock snapped with a violent crack.

Ethan burst into the scrub room, tearing open the double doors to the operating room.

"Vaughn! Step away from that table!" Ethan’s voice boomed through the sterile chamber, commanding and absolute.

The surgical team froze in terror. Adrian slowly lowered his scalpel, turning his blood-stained gloves toward us. "You're breaking sterile field, Ethan. If this child dies, her blood is on your billionaire hands."

"The bypass monitor is already showing altered flow rates, Adrian!" I yelled, stepping into the room despite the sterile protocol, my voice ringing with a strength I didn't know I possessed. "I know what you did to the medical logs in 2024! I have the audio recording of you threatening to murder a patient on this very table!"

Adrian’s eyes flared with unhinged rage. "You stupid, ungrateful bitch!" he roared, lunging past the scrub nurse directly toward me, his scalpel raised high.

Ethan intercepted him mid-stride.

The collision was brutal. Ethan caught Adrian’s wrist, driving him backward into the stainless steel tray of surgical instruments. Trays crashed to the floor, metal clattering loudly across the tile. Adrian slashed wildly, the tip of the blade tearing through Ethan’s crisp white shirt, leaving a line of crimson across Ethan’s forearm.

Ethan didn't even flinch. He twisted Adrian’s arm downward until the scalpel clattered harmlessly away, then delivered a sharp, decisive strike to Adrian’s jaw.

Adrian hit the floor hard, dazed and bleeding from his mouth.

"Get Dr. Lin in here to finish this surgery now!" Ethan ordered the shocked nurses, his voice iron-clad. He didn't look down at his own bleeding arm; his eyes were glued to me. "Ava, are you hit?"

May you like

"No," I sobbed, rushing to his side, wrapping my arms around his waist. "No, but you're bleeding!"

"It’s nothing," Ethan whispered into my hair, holding me tight with his uninjured arm. "It’s over."
