Chapter 9 - The Final Showdown

The private airstrip outside of Hartford was shrouded in thick fog. A sleek Gulfstream jet sat idling on the tarmac, its turbine engines humming a low, steady roar.
Valentin Vance stood near the boarding stairs, flanked by four private security guards, checking his gold wristwatch with an air of absolute impatience. He expected Dr. Blake to arrive with confirmation that the Moretti estate had finally fallen.
Instead, a convoy of three matte-black SUVs tore through the security gates, their high beams cutting blinding paths through the mist.
The vehicles screeched to a halt, forming a tactical semi-circle around the private jet. Doors flew open, and Vincent Moretti stepped out into the cold night air, flanked by his enforcers—and me.
Vance froze, his hand dropping from his watch, though he quickly recovered his composure, forcing a smooth, practiced smile.
"Vincent! What a surprise," Vance called out, spreading his arms. "I heard about the boys. I was just flying out to offer my condolences—"
"Save it, Valentin," Vincent interrupted, his voice cutting through the jet engine roar like a razor blade. He walked right up to Vance, stopping mere inches away. "The doctor is tied up. The ventilation system is clean. And my sons are awake."
Vance’s smile faltered, his eyes darting toward the armed men surrounding them. "I... I don't know what you're talking about. Blake was just a medical consultant—"
"A medical consultant you paid three million dollars to slowly poison my seven-year-old boys," Vincent roared, his fist suddenly connecting with Vance’s jaw with the force of a wrecking ball.
Vance staggered backward, crashing against the aluminum stairs of the private jet, blood splitting his lip. He wiped his mouth, a bitter, vicious laugh escaping his throat.

"You think killing me or locking me up changes anything, Vincent?" Vance sneered, blood staining his white collar. "My network is vast. Someone else will take your ports, your routes, your territory. You can't protect your family forever."
"I don't have to protect them forever," Vincent said, stepping back and nodding to his enforcers, who moved in to zip-tie Vance's wrists. "I just have to make sure anyone who tries is buried so deep the world forgets they existed."
