Chapter 12 - Blood and Betrayal in Cell Block CThe news hit the federal penitentiary like a shockwave. Within hours of the indictment, the story of Evelyn Sterling’s thirty-year-old murder conspiracy was broadcast on every television screen in the prison common room.

Daniel Sterling sat on the edge of his cramped, steel-framed bunk in Cell Block C, staring blankly at the small mounted television. His hands shook uncontrollably. His mother—the woman he had worshipped, defended, and obeyed blindly his entire life—was a cold-blooded killer. And worse, she had murdered his true biological father just to seize control of the family fortune.

The cell door rattled loudly as a heavy metal tray slid through the slot.

“Mail call, Sterling,” a gruff guard called out, tossing a single, unsealed legal envelope onto Daniel’s cot.

Daniel didn't move for a long time. Finally, he picked it up. It wasn't from a lawyer. It was a formal notification from the county courthouse, bearing a signature he recognized instantly: Elena Vance-Sterling.

He tore open the envelope. Inside was a single document: A legal petition for total, unconditional dissolution of marriage, coupled with a permanent restraining order and a complete stripping of his surname. He was no longer a Sterling. He was legally reduced to Daniel Evans—an indigent inmate with zero assets, zero family, and zero protection.

A sharp knock echoed on his cell bars. Daniel looked up to see a towering, scarred inmate named Bruno—a man whose criminal syndicate Daniel’s corporate corruption had helped put away five years prior—standing outside his door with a chilling grin.

“Hey, Sterling,” Bruno purred, his voice dripping with malice as he wrapped a heavy chain around his knuckles. “I heard the news about your mommy. Looks like you ain't got a shield no more.”

Daniel let out a terrified gasp, scrambling backward against the concrete wall as the heavy steel door buzzed open.

While Daniel faced his reckoning behind bars, what high-stakes corporate coup was I launching across the Atlantic that would cement my status as a global titan?
