Chapter 17 - The Final SignatureThe silence in the prison conference room stretched on for what felt like an eternity. Daniel stared down at the crisp white paper, his hands trembling violently as he held the pen. He looked at the signature line—Daniel Sterling-Evans—realizing that signing it meant erasing the last shred of his family’s legendary dynasty forever.

He looked up at me, searching my eyes for a shred of mercy, a hint of the woman who used to pack his lunches and listen to him complain about board meetings.

“Elena...” he choked out, a final tear slipping down his cheek. “Was there ever a real moment between us? In seven years... did you ever truly love me?”
I paused at the door, looking back over my shoulder one last time.
“I loved you enough to cook your meals, stand by your side, and forgive your shortcomings,” I said quietly. “Until your mother tried to break me, and you told me not to make a big deal out of it. You killed whatever love was left that night, Daniel. Enjoy your peace.”
