Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of SterlingThe courtroom of the Federal District Court was packed to the gills. Flashbulbs popped blindingly outside as journalists from every major financial publication vied for a glimpse of the once-untouchable Sterling family.

Evelyn Sterling walked into the courtroom in a standard orange jumpsuit, her hair unstyled, her face devoid of makeup, and her legendary arrogance completely shattered. Behind her shuffled Daniel, looking hollowed-out and trembling, his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night in federal custody.
They sat down at the defense table, their public defender flipping frantically through a thin stack of papers—papers that offered virtually no defense against the mountain of evidence stacking up against them.
Then, the heavy oak doors at the front of the courtroom swung open.
A collective gasp sucked the air right out of the room.
I walked in, flanked by Robert and a team of high-priced corporate attorneys. I wore a tailored, midnight-blue Chanel suit, oversized designer sunglasses, and walked with the unmistakable posture of a queen taking her rightful domain. Every head turned. Whispers rippled through the gallery.
“Isn’t that... isn’t that Daniel’s wife?” “The one Evelyn humiliated online last month?” “No look at her security detail—she’s with Sterling Global!”
Evelyn’s jaw dropped so low I thought it might detach. She stared at me, her eyes bulging with sheer, unadulterated horror as the horrifying realization finally slammed into her brain.
“Your Honor,” Robert announced loudly, stepping up to the podium. “For the record, my name is Robert Sterling, representing the majority stakeholder and newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Global Enterprises: Elena Vance-Sterling.”
The judge nodded solemnly. “Proceed, counselor.”
Daniel grabbed the edge of the defense table, standing up so fast his chair screeched against the linoleum. “Elena?!” he screamed, his voice echoing off the high vaulted ceilings. “What is the meaning of this?! You’re my wife! Make them stop this! Tell them it’s a joke!”
The bailiff immediately stepped forward, placing a heavy hand on Daniel’s shoulder and forcing him back down into his seat. “Silence in the courtroom, or you will be held in contempt!”

I didn't even look at Daniel as I took a seat in the front row of the gallery, crossing my legs gracefully and looking straight at the bench.
What devastating testimony was I about to deliver that would ensure Evelyn and Daniel spent the next twenty years behind bars with absolutely zero chance of parole?
