Chapter 13 - The London AcquisitionAcross the Atlantic, the London financial district was buzzing with anticipation. The board of directors of Vance-Sterling Global had gathered in the penthouse boardroom of our newly acquired European headquarters in Mayfair.

The acquisition of Pendleton & Croft—London’s oldest venture capital firm—was the final puzzle piece in my grand strategy to monopolize international tech investments. But the deal wasn't going down without a fight. Lord Alistair Thorne, the arrogant, old-money chairman of Pendleton & Croft, still believed he could bully a female CEO from America.

“My dear Mrs. Vance-Sterling,” Lord Thorne drawled smoothly, swirling a glass of scotch as he sat at the head of the mahogany table. “Your hostile takeover bid is impressive, I’ll grant you that. But our board holds deep roots in European aristocracy. Do you truly believe a twenty-eight-year-old outsider from New York can manage a portfolio spanning four continents?”

The board members chuckled quietly, exchanging condescending smirks.

I didn't blink. I didn't flinch. I slowly opened my laptop, typed a single keystroke, and projected a massive financial audit onto the smart screen behind Lord Thorne.

“Let’s talk about roots, Lord Thorne,” I said, my voice cutting through the room like a razor blade. “Specifically, the roots of your offshore tax evasion scheme in the Cayman Islands, channeled through three shell companies under your wife’s maiden name.”

Lord Thorne’s scotch glass slipped from his fingers, shattering loudly against the hardwood floor. The amber liquid splattered across his Italian leather shoes.

“How... how did you...” Thorne sputtered, his face turning the color of a bruised plum.

“When you play chess, Lord Thorne, you look three moves ahead. When I play, I buy the entire board,” I stated calmly, standing up and leaning over the table. “You have exactly ten seconds to sign the acquisition contract, or I forward these federal indictments to the Serious Fraud Office in London. Your choice.”

Within thirty seconds, Thorne’s trembling hand signed the document.

With Europe conquered, I returned to New York to face the final ghost of my past: a desperate plea from the man who used to watch me burn.
