Chapter 18 - A New DawnThe morning sun over Lake Michigan was breathtaking, painting the Chicago skyline in brilliant shades of gold, rose, and amber.

Standing on the private balcony of our newly renovated estate on the North Shore, I breathed in the crisp, clean air. The heavy weight of the past five years—the waiting, the loneliness, the betrayal, and the terror—had vanished, replaced by an unshakable, radiant peace.
Inside the sprawling living room, Julian sat on the plush rug, playing gently with the twins as they giggled and clutched at his fingers. Alistair stood nearby, leaning against the doorway with a rare, genuine smile on his face, holding a cup of espresso.
"Corporate restructuring is finalized," Alistair announced, tossing a fresh tablet onto the patio table. "The Vance-Moretti Global Logistics Center is officially the largest unified shipping conglomerate in the Midwest. And your approval rating as chairwoman is higher than the mayor's."
"Let's keep it that way," I smiled, turning around to lean against the balcony railing.
Julian looked up from the floor, his dark eyes locking onto mine with a warmth and devotion that made my heart skip a beat, just like it had all those years ago in Paris. He stood up, handing the babies to the trusted nanny, and walked out onto the balcony, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind.
"Penny for your thoughts, CEO Moretti—or should I say, CEO Vance?" Julian murmured, resting his chin on my shoulder.
I leaned back against his chest, smiling as I looked out over the sparkling expanse of Lake Michigan.
"I was just thinking about the day I dropped that dinner bag on the marble floor of Dante's office," I whispered softly. "I thought my life was ending."
Julian tightened his embrace, pressing a tender kiss to my cheek. "It wasn't the end of your life, Lena. It was the day you finally woke up."
I turned around in his arms, wrapping my hands around his neck, looking up into the eyes of the man who had survived the shadows to build a future with me.
"No," I smiled, pressing my lips gently against his. "It was the day I stopped waiting for someone else to write my story, and started writing it myself."
Behind us, the twins let out a happy gurgle, echoing the laughter of a new beginning. The empire was ours, the ghosts of the past were buried deep, and the future belonged entirely to us.
