Chapter 3 - The Mafia Boss’s Dangerous BetThe ballroom exploded into a cacophony of gasps, furious whispers, and frantic murmurs.

“He’s insane!” someone shrieked near the champagne fountain. “He can’t marry a maid! It will destroy the Vale foundation’s board!” another executive muttered, clutching his chest.

Caroline Whitmore looked like she was about to burst into tears of pure rage. “Dominic, you are making a mockery of your own legacy! My family built half of the North Side with your grandfather! You cannot throw your life away on a hired domestic!”

Dominic finally turned his head toward her, his ice-gray eyes narrowing into slits that promised absolute violence.

“Caroline,” Dominic said, his voice dropping an octave, sending a shiver through everyone within ten feet. “You talk too much about what my family built. But you seem to forget who owns the ground it stands on. The game is over. If you or anyone else in this room has a problem with my future wife, you are welcome to step outside and discuss it with my security detail.”

Not a single person moved.

Dominic turned back to Elena, offering a large, warm, calloused hand—the hand of a man who controlled dockyards, shipping lanes, and underground banking networks, yet moved with the grace of a predator.

“Shall we, Miss Carter?” he asked, a glint of genuine amusement in his dark eyes.

Elena looked at his hand. She knew the legends about Dominic Vale. She knew about the enemies who vanished, the syndicates he crushed during the Chicago underworld wars of 2023, and the ruthless empire he ruled with an iron fist. Marrying him wasn't just stepping out of her social class; it was stepping directly into the mouth of a volcano.

Slowly, deliberately, Elena placed her hand in his.

His grip was warm, strong, and iron-clad. As he pulled her up from the piano bench, he leaned down so only she could hear.

“You play like a ghost, Elena,” he murmured, his breath hot against her ear. “Now let’s see if you can survive living with one.”

Before she could answer, the heavy oak doors of the ballroom burst open.

A tall man in a blood-stained trench coat stumbled into the room, gasping for breath, clutching a smoking firearm. It was Viktor, Dominic’s head of internal security.

“Boss,” Viktor choked out, blood dripping from his forehead. “The North Pier warehouse... it’s breached. The Russian syndicate didn't wait for the summit. They’re coming here.”
