Chapter 9 - The Finale of Viktor Rostov“Are you out of your mind?!” Dominic roared, trying to pull her back.

“You said you wanted a partner, Dominic!” Elena snapped, her eyes flashing with a terrifying, beautiful defiance. She snatched the heavy Glock right out of his holster with surprising speed. “Not a trophy!”

Before Dominic could stop her, Elena vaulted over the stone balustrade, sliding onto the wet grass of the cliffside terrace, and took a textbook sniper’s stance behind a marble pillar.

She closed her eyes for a fraction of a second, listening.

The wind howling through the pines. The rhythmic clicking of a distant bolt-action rifle.

She calculated the distance, adjusted for the wind drift, and pictured the metronome in her head. One, two, three—beat.

She aimed three inches to the left of the muzzle flash in the distant tree line and squeezed the trigger three times in rapid succession.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

A second later, a muffled scream echoed across the ravine from the eastern pines, followed by the heavy crash of a body tumbling through pine branches and hitting the rocky forest floor.

Silence fell over the terrace, save for the whistling wind off the lake.

Viktor slowly stood up from behind a marble planter, lowering his assault rifle, his jaw hanging open so low it nearly hit his collarbone. He looked from the distant tree line to Elena, who was calmly dusting off the knee of her black velvet gown.

“...Boss,” Viktor whispered slowly, looking at Dominic. “I think you found yourself a keeper.”

Dominic stood there for a moment, stunned. Then, a slow, dark, utterly captivated smile spread across his face. He walked over to her, ignoring the smoke drifting from the barrel of the gun in her hand, and pulled her straight into his arms, crushing his lips against hers in a fierce, breathless, possessive kiss that tasted of gunpowder and victory.

When he finally pulled back, his eyes were burning with a terrifying, absolute devotion.

“Viktor,” Dominic commanded without breaking eye contact with his new bride.

“Yes, Boss?”

“Call Viktor Rostov. Tell him his sniper missed.” Dominic’s voice dropped to a chilling whisper. “And tell him Mrs. Vale is coming for the rest of his empire.”
