Chapter 14 - The ConvergenceCaleb stood paralyzed on the wooden dock, the cold sea wind whipping his jacket around his thin frame. Emily’s words echoed relentlessly in his ears, stripping away the last remaining shreds of his self-delusion. He stumbled backward, leaning heavily against a wooden piling as a familiar, suffocating wave of genuine nausea washed over him—not from the motion of the water, but from the crushing weight of his absolute ruin.

Meanwhile, inside the marina management office, Emily sat across from the harbormaster, finalizing the paperwork for their upcoming corporate charter.

"Everything looks solid, Mrs. Vance—excuse me, Ms. Harper," the harbormaster corrected himself with a polite smile, using her restored maiden name. "The catamaran will be docked at Slip 4 on Saturday morning. Your business partner already inspected the vessel yesterday."

"Thank you, Captain Miller," Emily replied, sliding the signed folder across the desk. "We’re looking forward to a fantastic season."

As she stepped back out into the afternoon sunlight, she noticed that the spot where Caleb had been standing was empty. A small puddle of spilled coffee and a discarded cardboard cup were all that remained of her ex-husband. He had vanished into the shadows from whence he came, a ghost haunting the very shores he had spent years pretending to fear.

Emily took a deep, liberating breath of the salty ocean air, feeling the final knot of past trauma untie itself completely from her chest. She pulled out her phone, dialed Rachel’s number, and smiled as it picked up on the first ring.

"Slip 4 is locked in," Emily announced brightly. "Are we ready to make waves?"
