Chapter 14 - The Silent PartnerMarcus tossed a secure encrypted tablet onto the mahogany desk. The screen flickered to life, displaying a classified financial network wire map originating from Zurich, Switzerland.

"Explain," I commanded, stepping closer to the desk.
"Richard Davis was just the front man in the United States," Marcus explained, tapping the screen to highlight a hidden corporate shell named Vanguard Syndicate. "The real money—billions in illicit shipping, smuggling, and corporate espionage—belongs to a cartel operating out of Eastern Europe. And their leader just landed in Miami this afternoon."
My heart rate remained completely steady. No panic. No fear. Just pure, tactical focus.
"Do we have a name?" I asked.
"Victor Vance," Marcus said grimly. "No relation to me, thankfully. He’s a former KGB operative turned international arms broker. And rumor has it, he’s furious that a newlywed bride just dismantled his entire American distribution network."
I walked back over to the window, watching the distant lights of the port where cruise ships and cargo liners moved silently across the dark water.
"He thinks I'm a trophy wife who got lucky," I whispered, a dangerous smile touching my lips. "He doesn't know I'm the storm."
"What's your play, Sarah?" Marcus asked, watching me closely. "Federal marshals can't touch Vanguard on international soil without an act of Congress. If Victor wants a war, he's going to bring it straight to your doorstep."

I reached into my desk drawer, pulled out a heavy, brass-bound lockbox, and popped the latch. Inside rested a pristine, engraved U.S. Marine Corps combat knife—the one my father had handed me the day I earned my sergeant stripes.
"Then we don't wait for him to knock," I said, sliding the knife into my belt. "We go hunting."
