Chapter 14 - The Hidden VaultForced into a corner, Vincent lowered his weapon an inch, his jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitched violently in his cheek.

"The wine cellar," Vincent spat out. "The primary rack behind the reserve Chianti. Move."

Viktor gestured for two guards to escort Vincent down the stone steps, while he remained in the foyer, his eyes scanning the grand portraits on the walls. Up on the second-floor landing, I held my breath, motioning for Ellie and Isabella to crawl backward into the master suite closet. But Isabella didn't move. She slipped past my arm, her eyes fixed on the small silver locket around her neck.

Down in the wine cellar, Vincent pulled back the heavy oak wine rack, revealing a biometric steel vault door set deep into the natural stone foundation of the Tuscan hill.

"Enter the code," Viktor ordered, stepping close behind him with a pistol drawn.

Vincent punched a sequence into the digital keypad. A harsh red light flashed: ACCESS DENIED.

"Don't play games with me, Vincent," Viktor snarled, pressing the barrel against the back of Vincent's neck. "The master voice hash. Use Sofia's recording."

"The system wiped the biometric cache after the Chicago unlock," Vincent lied smoothly, though his heart hammered against his ribs. "It’s a one-time security protocol."

Viktor let out a cold, humorless laugh. "You think I didn't plan for your sentimentality? I know Sofia kept a backup frequency encoded in an analog medium. Where is it, Vincent? Where is the cassette?"

Before Vincent could answer, a soft, clear voice echoed down the stone stairwell from the darkness of the hallway above.

"It's right here."
