Chapter 15 - Isabella's ChoiceEveryone froze. Viktor spun around, aiming his pistol up toward the shadows of the staircase.

Isabella stood on the top step, completely alone, her small hands holding the battered silver-grey Sony cassette recorder. The little red play button was depressed, and Sofia’s warm, crystal-clear voice filled the cellar once more:

> "If you are listening to this, my little Bella bird, remember that true strength is never found in fear..."

"Smart little girl," Viktor smiled maliciously, lowering his gun slightly as he took a step toward the stairs. "Hand it to me, Bella. Bring it down to uncle Viktor, and nobody has to get hurt."

Isabella didn't move. She looked down at the recorder, then down at the white swan music box resting on the floor beside her feet.

"Mommy said bad men only wear suits when they're trying to hide their dirt," Isabella said clearly, her voice echoing off the ancient stone walls with chilling precision.

Viktor’s polite smile vanished, replaced by a dark, ugly scowl. He raised his pistol directly at the seven-year-old child. "Give me the tape, you little bitch, or—"

He never finished the sentence.

From the shadows behind Viktor, Lev lunged forward with military precision, wrapping a heavy steel garrote wire around Viktor's throat before the mercenaries could react. At the same exact second, Vincent kicked out his leg, sweeping the legs of the nearest guard while drawing a concealed backup pistol from his holster.

Gunfire erupted in the confined space, shattering wine bottles and sending splinters of oak flying in every direction.
