Chapter 9 - The Final InheritanceThe sun dipped below the tree line, painting the sky in shades of bruised purple and brilliant gold. Inside the estate library, Vincent slid the heavy brass key we found in the garden into a hidden lock beneath the mahogany writing desk—a compartment neither Dominic nor anyone else had ever discovered in all the years they worked there.

With a soft mechanical click, a secret wall panel slid back, revealing a cedar-lined compartment containing items no syndicate book or offshore ledger could ever account for.

There were photo albums filled with polaroids of Vincent and Sofia before the wealth, before the violence, before the betrayal. There were hand-written letters from Sofia to an unborn Isabella, detailing dreams of a peaceful life far away from the dark world of organized crime. And right at the front, resting on a velvet cushion, was a clean, unblemished title deed to a quiet coastal vineyard in Tuscany, completely paid for, carrying no liens, no debts, and no ties to the Chicago syndicate.

Vincent picked up the deed, tracing his fingers over Sofia’s signature written at the bottom alongside his own from a decade ago.

He hadn't needed Dominic’s dirty money. He hadn't needed the empire built on blood and fear. Sofia had always known that, and she had left him the map to find his way back to himself.

Vincent walked out of the library and stepped into the grand foyer where I was helping Ellie pack her red shoes into a small canvas tote bag while Isabella hummed the delicate melody of the swan music box.

"Where are we going, Mommy?" Ellie asked, looking up at me with her bright, curious eyes.

I looked over at Vincent as he walked down the grand staircase, holding the Tuscan deed in one hand and his daughter’s small hand in the other.

"We're going on a trip, sweetheart," I said, smiling as I took Vincent's outstretched hand. "We're going somewhere the sun always shines, and the music never stops."
