Chapter 6 - The Cleansing FireBy 3:00 AM, the Lake Forest estate was quiet again, but the atmosphere had fundamentally shifted. The dark, suffocating weight that had lingered in every hallway since Sofia’s death was gone, swept out by the truth.

Vincent stood in his private study, the micro-SD card resting on his polished walnut desk next to the heavy revolver. On the screen of his secure terminal, folders containing Dominic’s shadow operations, offshore accounts, and systemic betrayals were being systematically wiped, backed up only by files that would ensure Dominic’s co-conspirators in the syndicate spent the rest of their natural lives in federal supermax prisons.
There would be no turf war. There would be no bloodshed in the streets of Chicago. Vincent was restructuring the entire operation, moving legitimate assets into real estate and clean shipping lanes. He was keeping his promise to Sofia—the promise she had died trying to enforce.
Lev knocked quietly on the open door before stepping inside.
"The authorities picked up Dominic’s body from the county morgue," Lev reported, his face impassive. "As far as the police and the press are concerned, it was a heart attack brought on by the stress of an ongoing financial audit. Clean and quiet. Just like you asked."
"And the others on the list?" Vincent asked, not looking up from his screen.
"They received their severance packages," Lev replied grimly. "They’re either on a flight out of the country by now or retiring permanently. Nobody will look too closely at a ghost."

Vincent nodded slowly. "Good. Make sure my daughter’s security detail is doubled. From now on, no one gets within fifty yards of Isabella or the nanny without my direct clearance."
Lev gave a sharp nod and slipped out of the room, leaving Vincent alone with the silence of the night.
