Chapter 13 - The Second Trap

"Elena..." Harrison stammered, scrambling backward until his spine hit the mahogany bookshelves. "I... I just came for some personal papers. Documents that belong to me—"

"Documents that belong to my family's trust, which you tried to use as blackmail leverage," Elena finished smoothly, stepping into the dim light of the room. She didn't raise her voice, but every word carried the crushing weight of absolute authority.

Before Harrison could lunge for the door, the library lights flickered on brightly, flooding the room. Two local police officers stepped out from the hallway, their hands resting casually on their utility belts, accompanied by Sarah, who was holding a digital tablet.

"Mr. Harrison Miller, you are currently in violation of a restraining order, trespassing on private residential property, and attempting to commit felony burglary," the lead officer stated flatly, stepping forward and pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. "Turn around and place your hands behind your back."

Panic finally overwhelmed Harrison’s delusions. He whipped his head toward Elena, his face contorted in sheer fury.

"You set me up!" Harrison screamed, thrashing as the officers grabbed his arms and forced him against the bookshelf. "You knew I was coming! You left the back door unlocked on purpose!"

Elena walked slowly toward him, stopping just inches away. Her gaze was completely devoid of emotion—cold, clear, and utterly lethal.

"I didn't have to trick you, Harrison. I just had to give you enough rope to finish hanging yourself," Elena whispered softly. "You couldn't accept that you lost fairly. Your ego wouldn't let you crawl away quietly. So you walked right back into the lion's den, completely blind to the fact that every single movement you made tonight was tracked by motion sensors and livestreamed straight to my security terminal."

The officers yanked Harrison forward, dragging him toward the exit.

"You're a monster, Elena!" Harrison shrieked, his voice echoing desperately down the grand hallway as he was hauled out into the night air. "You haven't seen the last of me! I'll ruin you!"

Elena watched the doors close behind him, listening to the faint clink of handcuffs in the distance. She walked over to the desk, picked up the leather folder he had dropped, and slid it neatly back into the safe before closing the heavy steel door.
