Chapter 4 - The Homecoming Trap

Three days after fleeing London on a commercial economy flight—having begged a bewildered distant acquaintance to wire him enough money for a basic ticket—Harrison stumbled out of O’Hare International Airport. He looked like a ghost of the man who had swaggered out of Chicago a week prior.

He took an Uber straight to their sprawling lakefront mansion, expecting at least to find Elena waiting to argue, to yell, or to demand an explanation.

Instead, the wrought-iron gates refused to open. His biometric thumbprint scanner flashed red: ACCESS DENIED.

Frustrated, Harrison pounded on the grand mahogany front door until the heavy oak panel swung open. But it wasn't Elena standing there. It was two unfamiliar men in sharp charcoal suits, holding a stack of legal papers.

"Harrison Miller?" the lead attorney asked flatly.

"Who the hell are you? Get out of my house!" Harrison snarled, trying to shove past them into the foyer.

"You no longer own, lease, or have rights to this property," the attorney replied, stepping firmly into his path. "By court order filed yesterday morning under the expedited asset freeze requested by Mrs. Elena Vance, all real estate, luxury vehicles, bank accounts, and corporate assets registered under your name or subsidiary LLCs have been seized as collateral for unpaid marital liabilities and fraudulent misrepresentation of funds."

Harrison stared at them in utter disbelief. "Seized? That’s impossible! That’s my house! I built this empire!"

"You built nothing, Mr. Miller," a cool, melodic voice echoed from the sweeping staircase above.

Harrison whipped his head up. There stood Elena, wearing a tailored cream silk pantsuit, her expression as serene and untouchable as a queen looking down from her fortress. She wasn't the timid, overlooked wife anymore; she radiated absolute authority.

"Elena!" Harrison cried out, his voice cracking with desperate theatrics as he rushed toward the stairs. "Thank god you're here. This is all a horrible misunderstanding. It was a business trip! Khloe meant nothing—she was just an assistant! Please, call off these lawyers. Let's talk inside like adults."
