Chapter 10 - THE LAST PHOTOGRAPHHook: A final package arrives at the penthouse, revealing a twist that shatters everything they thought they knew about the night the fire started.

Three days later, the city had returned to its chaotic, indifferent rhythm.

Inside the secure study of The Velvet Crown, Lena sat at the mahogany desk, organizing the remaining pages of her mother’s leather-bound diary. The wounds on her ribs were healing, thanks to Dr. Bell’s professional care, but her mind was entirely focused on untangling the final threads of her past.

Adrien walked in, holding a plain brown courier envelope stamped with a red wax seal.

"Package just arrived via international diplomatic pouch," Adrien said, placing it gently on the desk in front of her. "No return address. Hand-delivered by a courier who vanished into the subway before Marco could intercept him."

Lena’s heart skipped a beat. She used a silver letter opener to slice through the wax seal.

Inside was a single, pristine photograph.

It was the same picture of her childhood home, but this time, the woman standing behind twelve-year-old Lena hadn't been scratched out. The ink had been carefully peeled away, revealing a face in crystal-clear definition.

Lena gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

It wasn't her mother.

It was Dr. Bell.

The door to the study clicked softly. Footsteps echoed across the hardwood floor.

Lena spun around in her chair. Standing in the doorway was Dr. Bell, her professional composure completely gone, replaced by a cold, triumphant smile. In her hand, she held a silenced Walther PPK pistol, pointed directly at Adrien’s chest.

"I told you," Dr. Bell said smoothly, her voice dropping all its clinical warmth. "Some secrets are buried in ash. And some daughters... always return to the fire."

Adrien didn't blink. He didn't reach for his weapon. A slow, terrifying smile spread across his lips as he looked past the doctor toward the hallway monitors.

"You shouldn't have trusted the postal service, Doctor," Adrien whispered. "Marco checked the security feeds ten minutes ago."

Before Dr. Bell could pull the trigger, the heavy oak door behind her swung open, and the cold steel barrel of Marco’s submachine gun pressed firmly against the back of her skull.

"Game over, Doc," Marco whispered.

Lena stood up slowly, picking up the unblemished photograph from the desk. The puzzle pieces finally clicked into place. The chase wasn't over—it was only just beginning.
