The armored convoy returned to Manhattan as the first rays of dawn began to pierce the heavy gray clouds over the East River.
The Velvet Crown was silent and secure. The federal task force had officially seized the Vance family’s assets, distributing the recovered Rostova trust funds back into legitimate, transparent humanitarian foundations bearing Lena's true name.
Inside the penthouse study, the rain had finally cleared.
Lena stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the waking skyline of New York City. The morning light cast a golden glow across the room, illuminating the spot where she had first stumbled through the club doors barefoot, bleeding, and terrified just days ago.
A pair of warm, strong arms wrapped securely around her waist from behind. A familiar, clean scent of cedar and leather surrounded her.
"You're quiet," Adrien murmured softly, resting his chin gently against her shoulder.
Lena leaned back into his chest, letting out a long, peaceful breath. Her ribs still ached slightly, but the pain felt distant now—part of a life she had survived and left behind.
"I was just thinking about the girl who walked through your club doors," Lena whispered, placing her hands over his. "She thought she was running for her life."
Adrien turned her gently in his arms, his dark eyes looking down at her with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat. "She wasn't running away from anything, Lena. She was finding her way home."
Lena smiled, her hazel eyes sparkling with a bright, fearless warmth. She reached up, her fingers tracing the edge of his jawline. "And what about you, Mr. Viscari? Are you going to keep guarding me forever?"
