Chapter 9 - A New HierarchyThe door clicked shut behind me, sealing out the hum of the open-plan office and the frantic whispering of my coworkers.

Claire stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the Chicago skyline as the morning light illuminated the room.
"You handled yourself well on the helipad, Ethan," she said without turning around. "For a designer who spends his life hiding behind ficus trees."

I stared at her, my breath catching in my throat. "Are you offering me...?"
"I'm offering you the job, Ethan," she said, a faint smile finally breaking through her professional facade. "Unless, of course, you'd rather go back to hiding in the corner."
May you like
I looked out the window at the sprawling Chicago skyline, then back at the woman who had dragged me into the most chaotic weekend of my life.
"I think," I said slowly, a grin spreading across my face, "I'm done hiding."
