Chapter 18 - The Pawn's Despair

"It was Sterling!" Richard screamed desperately, his hand clutching the glass railing. "He forced me into it, Elena! He threatened to ruin me if I didn't steal the schematics! You know me, Elena! I’m just a businessman! I loved you!"
Victor Sterling, now handcuffed inside the boardroom, laughed coldly through the open balcony door. "You pathetic idiot, Mercer. You came to me begging for money because you were terrified your wife was smarter than you. You handed me those files on a silver platter."
Richard stared at Sterling, then slowly turned back to me. The illusion of his power, his charm, and his corporate empire was completely shattered. He was a small, weak man who had destroyed his own life out of pure vanity and ego.
"Elena... please," Richard wept, reaching his hand out. "Help me."

"I gave you fifteen years of my life, Richard," I said, standing tall in the wind. "And you paid me back with a slap across the face. Help yourself."
The agents tackled him to the floor, pulling his arms behind his back and snapping the steel cuffs onto his wrists.
