Chapter 11 - The Inheritance Battle IntensifiesThe ink on the federal indictments was barely dry before a new storm hit. With Arthur Pendelton and Victoria Vance behind bars, I expected a brief moment of peace to mourn Thomas properly. Instead, the board of directors at Vance Enterprises scheduled an emergency hostile takeover vote, spearheaded by a shadowy consortium known as the Meridian Group.

Seated at the head of the massive mahogany boardroom table, I stared down twenty corporate sharks who thought an elderly former nurse would fold under pressure.
"Mrs. Vance," drawled Harrison Vance Jr., Thomas’s estranged cousin who had suddenly emerged from Zurich with a battery of high-priced lawyers. "You may hold the legal title as Thomas’s widow, but under corporate bylaws section 44-B, a spousal inheritance acquired during a terminal illness is subject to a mandatory ninety-day review by the executive committee. We are moving to freeze your assets immediately."
The room fell dead silent. Every eye was locked on me, waiting for the panic to set in.
Instead, I calmly adjusted my reading glasses, picked up my silver fountain pen, and slid a thick manila folder across the polished wood toward him.

"You might want to check page twelve of those bylaws, Harrison," I replied, my voice slicing through the tense air like a scalpel. "Thomas amended section 44-B three days before our wedding. Any executive attempting a hostile review without a clean federal clearance record is automatically stripped of their voting shares and ousted from the company. And as of this morning, Interpol has flagged the Meridian Group for international money laundering."
Harrison’s face drained of color as he frantically flipped through the documents. The trap Thomas laid wasn't just for Victoria; it was a multi-layered fortress designed to crush every greedy vulture in the family tree.
