Chapter 17 - Justice at the EdgeNathan broke free from the henchman, landed a devastating right hook that knocked the thug unconscious, and sprang to his feet. He lunged across the gravel toward Thorne just as the corrupt judge aimed his cleared pistol at Maya.

Nathan tackled Thorne mid-air. Both men crashed hard against the rusted iron railing of the cliff edge. The old iron gave way with a sickening screech of snapping metal.

Thorne slipped backward, his hands flailing wildly. He caught the bottom rung of the broken railing, dangling over the terrifying five-hundred-foot drop into the raging ocean.

Nathan stood above him, breathing heavily, looking down into the terrified eyes of the man who had orchestrated his wife's murder.

"Pull me up!" Thorne screamed, his fingers slipping on the rusted metal as the bitter wind howled around them. "You can't let me die! I know where the rest of the network is! I can give you immunity! I can give you everything!"

Nathan looked down, his expression completely devoid of mercy.

"You killed my wife," Nathan said softly, his voice cutting through the roar of the waves. "You terrorized my children. And you thought you were untouchable."

"Nathan! Please!" Thorne sobbed, his fingers finally losing their grip entirely.

With a final, desperate gasp, Judge Robert Thorne slipped from the railing and plummeted downward, swallowed instantly by the roaring, dark abyss of Blackwood Cove.

Liam rushed over, carrying Maya and Leo in his arms. He grabbed Nathan’s shoulder. "Sirens are closing in from both directions. Federal marshals and local state police are arriving. It's over, Nathan. It's really over."

Nathan turned around, wrapping his arms around his two children, burying his face in their hair as the sun finally crested the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber.
