Chapter 19 - Elena’s Final MessageThe laptop screen flickered, displaying a single video file labeled For Nathan and the Kids - Open Only If I Am Gone.

Nathan clicked play.
The screen lit up with Elena’s face. She looked vibrant, smiling, sitting right at the very kitchen island where Nathan was sitting now. Her voice filled the quiet room, warm, clear, and full of enduring love.
"Hi, my love. If you’re watching this, it means the worst has happened. It means my investigation into Apex Holdings finally cornered them. I recorded this video a week before I knew they would try to silence me, just in case."
Tears welled in Nathan’s eyes as he watched her smile, a lump forming in his throat.
"I want you to know I have no regrets," Elena continued, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I fought to protect our family, to protect our children's future, and to stand up for what is right. Nathan, you were the greatest joy of my life. Raise Maya and Leo to be strong, kind, and fearless. Never let the darkness win. I love you, now and forever."
The video faded to black.
Maya and Leo walked into the kitchen, rubbing their sleepy eyes, padding softly across the hardwood floor in their pajamas.
"Dad? Who was that on the computer?" Maya asked softly, climbing onto the stool next to him.

Nathan wrapped his arm around her, pulling both of his children close against his chest. He looked at the screen, then down at his children, feeling a profound, unbreakable peace wash over his soul.
"That was Mom, sweetie," Nathan whispered, a gentle smile gracing his lips as a single tear rolled down his cheek. "And she says everything is going to be okay."
