Nathan sat in the sunlit kitchen of his home, sipping a cup of coffee. The dark clouds that had hung over his life for two agonizing years were gone, replaced by the peaceful hum of a rebuilt family.
The doorbell rang.
Nathan walked to the front door and opened it. A federal courier stood on the porch, holding a sealed manila envelope stamped with the Department of Justice seal.
"Mr. Hayes? Signature required for personal property recovery," the courier said politely.
Nathan signed the digital pad, took the envelope, and closed the door. He walked back to the kitchen, sat down at the island, and carefully tore open the seal.
