Chapter 18 - The Ultimate Deception

The warehouse descended into total chaos. Smoke filled the air, and red laser sights crisscrossed through the haze.

The federal tactical unit—tipped off by the automated distress signal programmed into Sarah’s laptop—shattered through the heavy security doors. "FBI! Drop your weapons! Down on the floor now!"

Gunfire erupted. I ducked behind a steel crate, pulling Hope close and covering her tiny ears as the shockwaves rattled the building.

Through the dense smoke, I saw Victoria breaking away from her guards, sprinting toward a private speed dock behind the warehouse where a high-powered launch boat was idling in the dark water. She was holding a leather briefcase containing the master server drives.

"She's escaping!" Sarah screamed, having managed to wriggle her hands free from her hastily tied bonds.

I sprinted past the crossfire, cutting through the side catwalks to head Victoria off at the pier. As Victoria reached the edge of the dock, I tackled her from behind with all the weight of my rage.

We crashed onto the wet wooden planks. The heavy briefcase skidded across the dock, plunging into the churning, black ocean water below.
