Chapter 20 - The Rising Sun

Three weeks later, the morning sun rose over a quiet coastal estate high on the cliffs of Maine.

The Vance medical empire had collapsed like a house of cards under federal indictments. James had turned himself in, signing a full confession that dismantled the remaining dark nodes of the human trafficking network in exchange for a reduced sentence—though he knew he would never see his children as a free man again.

Standing beside me on the porch was Sarah, her arm wrapped around my shoulder. Below us on the lawn, my three boys were playing tag, their laughter echoing across the green grass.

In my arms, Hope gurgled softly, reaching her small hand toward the ocean breeze. Beside her crib sat an official document from the State Department: an international adoption and rescue order authorizing a joint Interpol task force to extract a newborn baby boy from a private clinic in Zurich.

His name was already written on the nursery wall upstairs next to Hope's.

Leo.

I looked at Sarah and smiled, feeling the quiet strength of a woman who had walked through hell, fought off monsters, and dismantled a shadow empire to keep her promise.

The path behind us was littered with fire, betrayal, and scars that would never fully fade. But as I held my daughter and watched the morning light wash over the horizon, I knew the darkness no longer owned us. We were going to fetch my son, bring him home, and finally be whole.
