Chapter 5 - The Hundred-Million-Dollar CollapseThe room erupted into absolute bedlam.

Several junior partners from Meridian gasped aloud. One of the major institutional investors dropped his fork, the metal clattering loudly against porcelain.

"Termination?!" Ethan shrieked, his professional composure shattering into jagged pieces. "Are you out of your mind?! We spent six months on this deal! We have signed letters of intent! You can't just walk away over a—over a domestic dispute!"

"This isn't a domestic dispute, Mr. Cole," Lucas replied, his tone chillingly professional. "This is fraud. Ethan spun around, his eyes wide with horror as he looked at me. "You... you audited the firm? Behind my back?!"

"You thought you could freeze me out of the company I built with my father's legacy just because you found a fresh-faced assistant willing to wear my clothes to your corporate playground?"

Madison, realizing the ground was literally disappearing beneath her stiletto heels, tried to slip away toward the exit doors.

"Not so fast, Ms. Blake," Lucas called out, gesturing toward two burly hotel security guards standing near the entrance. "We also have a few questions regarding those corporate expense reports filed under your maiden name for luxury travel and high-end jewelry purchases. I believe corporate embezzlement carries a rather lengthy prison sentence in this state."

Madison froze, her face turning as pale as a ghost.
