Chapter 35 - The European Injunction

Within twenty minutes of the global broadcast going live, Beaufort’s tactical radio screeched to life with an emergency override command from corporate headquarters in Paris.
“Abort! Abort the clearance operation immediately! Do not touch them! The European Commission just issued a temporary emergency injunction halting all municipal condemnations pending an international human rights audit!”
Beaufort froze, his face draining of all color. He glared across the square at Maya with pure, unadulterated hatred, realizing that her digital strategy had checkmated him once again.
"This isn't over, Lin," Beaufort spat through clenched teeth, gesturing frantically for his guards to fall back. "You can't fight a global corporation forever. They'll find you wherever you go."
"I'm not hiding," Maya replied calmly, her voice carrying across the silent square. "And neither are we."

As Vanguard Global’s bulldozers slowly threw their gears into reverse and retreated down the boulevard, the square erupted into a deafening roar of triumph. Thousands of residents cheered, waving flags and embracing one another with tears of sheer relief. Amina ran forward, throwing her arms around Maya and pressing her sleeping toddler close.
Yet, Maya knew this was only the opening skirmish of an international war. Vanguard Global was just a tentacle of a much larger, deeply entrenched global financial cartel. To truly secure Belle-Vue—and ensure that no corporation could ever weaponize municipal laws against working families again—they had to strike at the syndicate's financial heart in Paris.
