Chapter 36 - The Paris Accord

Three weeks later, the opulent marble halls of the French National Assembly in Paris were filled with tension. The special parliamentary committee on housing equity was in session, reviewing the emergency human rights audit triggered by the Belle-Vue standoff.
Maya sat at the witness testimony table, wearing a crisp navy blue suit, her posture radiating absolute authority. Beside her sat Jean-Luc and Chloe, flanked by a thick stack of audited financial records tracing Vanguard Global’s illicit offshore slush funds directly back to the Orion Syndicate's remnant accounts.
Across the mahogany aisle sat the chief legal counsel for Vanguard Global—a slick, silver-haired corporate litigator named Charles du Pont—surrounded by a team of expensive associates.
"Dr. Lin," the committee chairperson, a stern French magistrate, addressed her directly. "Your dossier presents explosive allegations regarding systematic municipal corruption and fraudulent structural condemnations. Can you prove that Vanguard Global operated with malicious intent to displace citizens?"
Maya stood up calmly, walking over to the digital projection screen at the front of the assembly hall. She tapped her tablet, projecting a complex, illuminated web of shell corporations, offshore bank routing numbers, and secret municipal correspondence signed by corrupted local officials.
"The evidence is unassailable," Maya began, her voice echoing clearly through the grand hall. "For decades, international real estate syndicates have used municipal safety laws as a weapon of class warfare—evicting vulnerable families under the guise of modernization while laundering billions of dollars through European tax havens. Belle-Vue is not an isolated incident; it is a blueprint of systemic exploitation."
Charles du Pont stood up abruptly, slamming his palm onto the defense table. "Objection, Madame President! This is baseless slander designed to influence public markets and damage corporate reputation!"
"It is not slander, Monsieur du Pont. It is an audit," a sharp, familiar voice echoed from the public gallery doors at the back of the assembly hall.
Every head whipped around. Walking down the center aisle, leaning slightly on his ebony cane, was Julian Thorne—accompanied by two high-ranking European financial investigators carrying stamped federal arrest warrants.

Julian stopped at the witness well, placing a certified ledger directly onto the assembly desk. "I am Julian Thorne, former senior director of the Sterling Foundation and cooperating witness for international financial crimes. I am submitting complete transactional proof that Vanguard Global is a direct subsidiary of the Orion Syndicate, funded by embezzled public funds."
The assembly hall erupted into total uproar. The magistrate slammed her gavel repeatedly, demanding order.
