Chapter 37 - Verdict in the Capital
The parliamentary deliberation lasted a grueling six hours. Outside the grand stone building of the National Assembly, thousands of French labor union members, students, and displaced tenants from Belle-Vue gathered in the autumn rain, holding banners and chanting slogans of solidarity.
Inside the assembly hall, the magistrate finally stepped back up to the podium, her expression solemn and resolute.
"The committee has reviewed all submitted testimonies, financial ledgers, and international audit reports," the magistrate announced, her voice ringing clearly across the silent, expectant room. "The court finds that Vanguard Global engaged in systematic corporate fraud, deceptive municipal manipulation, and malicious tenant displacement."
Charles du Pont slumped back into his chair, his face pale, realizing his corporate empire had just crumbled into dust.
"Furthermore," the magistrate continued, "all municipal condemnation orders regarding the Belle-Vue district are permanently nullified. Ownership of the land is hereby transferred into a sovereign European Community Land Trust managed collectively by the residents. Additionally, Vanguard Global’s European assets are ordered liquidated to fund public housing developments across the region."
