Chapter 13 - The Race Against Time

Back at the Sterling estate, the atmosphere had shifted from sanctuary to military red alert. Marcus slammed a ruggedized military laptop onto the mahogany desk in the study, his fingers flying across the keys with frantic energy.

"I ran the serial numbers from Julian Vance’s pin and traced the financial pipelines," Marcus said, his voice breathless as glowing data maps flooded the screen. "Ethan, Julian isn't just a shadow broker. He’s the chairman of the Orion Syndicate—a global network of corrupt elites who control nearly forty percent of private equity and asset laundering across North America and Europe."

Ethan stood by the window, staring out toward the lake where Lily was sleeping safely upstairs under the guard of four elite operatives. His fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles were stark white.

"He knew about the cabin," Ethan said quietly, his voice dangerously low. "He knew Sarah was alive. This entire corporate downfall, Vivian’s infiltration, Victor’s arrest—it was all a staged chess game to draw us out and force us to expose our hidden contingencies."

"And it worked," Marcus admitted grimly. "Julian now knows about the Orion Account. By midnight tonight, every offline asset you have will be targeted by state-sponsored cyber warfare teams."

Sarah stepped into the study, her posture rigid, holding a heavy encrypted hard drive she had pulled from her coat. "Julian made one fatal mistake. When I was running from his clean-up crew six years ago, I didn't just steal my life back—I downloaded the master ledger of every politician, judge, and CEO currently bought and paid for by the syndicate."

Ethan turned to look at her, a grim realization dawning in his eyes. "If we release the master ledger to the global press, the entire network collapses instantly."

"Yes," Sarah nodded. "But they know we have it. Which means they aren't going to try to ruin you legally this time, Ethan. They're coming to wipe us off the map."
