Chapter 17 - Dawn After the Storm

The wailing sirens of federal coast guard cutters and state police cruisers echoed across the lake as the first pale light of dawn broke over the horizon. The remaining syndicate mercenaries had been rounded up and zip-tied by federal agents who had finally been mobilized through Marcus’s emergency broadcast of Sarah’s master ledger.

On the wooden pier, Ethan knelt before Lily, carefully cutting the zip ties from her wrists and pulling her into his arms.

"You're safe, baby. Daddy’s got you," Ethan wept, burying his face in her hair as Lily finally let out a loud, healthy sob of relief, wrapping her small arms tightly around his neck.

Sarah stood beside them, resting her hand gently on Ethan’s shoulder. The nightmare was finally over. The syndicate was burning under the weight of its own exposed corruption, and the corrupt officials who had shielded them were already being rounded up on live television across the globe.

"We won," Sarah whispered, a tired, radiant smile breaking through her tears.

Ethan looked up, pulling Sarah into the embrace alongside Lily, completing the circle that had been broken six years ago.
