Chapter 15 - The Trap Springs"They're channeling us toward the grand ballroom," Dante analyzed quickly, assessing the tactical angles of the estate. "They want us in the open space where their snipers from the upper terrace can pick us off through the stained glass."

"Then we give them what they want," I replied, a reckless, dangerous courage taking over. "Except we flip the script."
Dante looked at me, his dark eyes widening slightly in genuine surprise, before a low, approving chuckle rumbled in his chest. "My wife would have loved you. Alright. What's your play, Mara?"
"You draw their fire from the main double doors," I instructed, pointing toward the heavy mahogany entrance of the ballroom. "I'll circle around through the service corridor behind the wet bar. They'll be so focused on the front door that they won't even see me coming from the flank."
"Too dangerous," Dante snapped immediately. "I'm not using you as bait."
"I'm not bait, Dante! I'm a Moretti now!" I hissed, grabbing his lapel and pulling him down to my eye level. "Trust me. Just like your son trusted me the second he smelled my skin."
For three agonizing seconds, Dante stared into my eyes. The battle raged around us—distant shouts, the shattering of glass, the heavy thud of boots overhead. Finally, he closed his eyes, let out a harsh breath, and nodded.

"Three minutes," Dante growled. "If you aren't in position by then, I'm burning this entire house to the ground."
