Chapter 30 - The Eternal EmpireLater that evening, after the children were tucked safely into bed and the house had settled into a quiet, peaceful hush, Dante and I stood out on the grand marble balcony of our bedroom.

The night sky was brilliant with stars, stretching out endlessly over the dark, quiet ocean below. The city lights twinkled in the distance like a field of fallen diamonds—a city we protected, a city we built our peace upon.
Dante pulled me close against his chest, our fingers interlocked, the heavy silver signet ring on my finger catching the moonlight.
"Do you ever miss it?" Dante asked quietly, his voice a soft murmur against the night air. "The simple life. Before the syndicates, before the danger, before me?"
I looked up at him, shaking my head slowly. The girl who used to balance three plates of sea bass and worry over stacks of unpaid bills felt like a character in a book I had read long ago.
"I don't miss the fear, Dante," I said honestly, resting my head against his shoulder. "I don't miss running. Because I spent my whole life waiting for someone to save me... until I realized I didn't need saving. I just needed a family brave enough to stand in the fire with me."
Dante tightened his embrace, his lips pressing gently against the crown of my head.
"We are the fire, Mara," he whispered into the dark. "And no one will ever put us out."

We stood there together under the vast, starlit sky, two broken pieces of the past finally fitted perfectly into a future of unbreakable strength.
The ghosts were gone. The dragons had found their queen.
