Chapter 6 - The Trap at Pier 4The silence in the war room was absolute. You could hear the distant, rhythmic crashing of the dark ocean waves against the concrete pilings outside.

I stared blankly at my phone screen, the image of Mrs. Gable's terrified face burned into my retinas. "We have to go," I gasped, hot tears finally spilling over my lashes. "She has nothing to do with this! She's just an old woman who gave me soup when I had the flu!"
"If we go to Pier 4 on their terms, it's a slaughterhouse," Dante’s chief enforcer, Marco, argued, stepping forward with a tactical vest in his hands. "It's a textbook ambush. They have snipers covering every inch of those docks."
"I don't care!" I spun around to face Dante, my eyes blazing with a fury I didn't know I possessed. "They took everything from you two years ago! They took my real mother, they took your wife, and now they're killing innocent people because of some stupid bloodline war I never asked to be born into! If you let that woman die to save your own skin, you're no better than they are!"
Dante stared at me. For a terrifying second, I thought he was going to order me locked in a room.

"You have your sister's fire," Dante whispered, stepping close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off him. He turned to Marco. "Prep the strike team. We aren't going to Pier 4 to surrender. We're going to remind the Vanguard why they stopped hunting Morettis in the first place."
