Chapter 26 - The New DawnThree days after Senator Vance’s humiliating exit, the geopolitical landscape of the underworld shifted dramatically.

True to Dante’s threat, the European High Council realized they had severely underestimated the new leadership of the Moretti family. Instead of declaring war, rival syndicates across the continent quietly backed down, sending formal letters of neutrality and tribute. The name Moretti was no longer just feared; it was respected as an untouchable dynasty.

Inside the estate nursery, little Lukas was having a fierce battle with a plastic dinosaur and a stuffed teddy bear, babbling happily in his own secret toddler language.

I sat in the rocking chair by the window, holding a cup of herbal tea, watching him with a heart full of a profound, unshakeable peace.

The door opened softly, and Dante walked in, wearing a simple black t-shirt and jeans, looking more like an ordinary man than a feared mafia boss. He walked over, kissed the top of Lukas’s head, and then walked over to me, kneeling beside my chair.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet jeweler's box, placing it on my lap.

"What's this?" I asked, raising an eyebrow playfully. "Another threat from the High Council?"

"Open it and see," Dante smiled.

With curious fingers, I flipped open the lid. Inside rested a stunning, delicate silver ring intricately carved in the shape of a coiled dragon holding a single, brilliant diamond. It wasn't just a piece of jewelry; it was an heirloom—the lost signet ring of Elena Moretti, recovered from the family archives.

"Your mother wore this when she first took her place at my side," Dante said softly, his dark eyes looking up into mine with absolute, unwavering devotion. "When I lost her, I thought the fire in my life had gone out forever. But then a waitress walked into Ristorante Bellagio with her face, her spirit, and her fire."

He reached out, taking my left hand and sliding the ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly.

"Mara Moretti," Dante whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Will you stay by my side, not just as family, not just as a partner, but as my queen—for all the years to come?"

My heart swelled, a rush of overwhelming happiness filling every corner of my soul. All the fear, the running, the lies my mother told to protect me—it had all led me to this exact moment.

"I thought you'd never ask, Boss," I whispered back.
