Chapter 35 - Secrets UnveiledWe brought her into the grand library, pouring cups of hot tea while Marco and the guards stood watch outside the double doors.

Kira sat across from us in the velvet armchair, her hands wrapped around the porcelain cup, her eyes darting around the room before settling back on me.
"I didn't grow up in the trailer parks like you did, Mara," Kira began, her voice quiet, steady. "When the purge happened, I was taken by a splinter faction of the old Vanguard—the ones who eventually formed the Ouroboros. They raised me to be a weapon. They told me my family abandoned me, that the Morettis left me to burn in the ashes."
"Why didn't they use you to kill us years ago?" Dante asked, his eyes narrowing, assessing every syllable for deception.
"Because I found out the truth," Kira said, reaching into her coat and pulling out a battered, leather-bound diary—the twin to the one my mother had left me years ago. She placed it gently on the coffee table. "I found our mother's real journal. She didn't abandon me by choice. She traded herself to the Ouroboros to buy enough time for Aunt Elena to escape with you."
The weight of her words settled heavily over the room.
I looked down at the diary, then up at Kira. The anger and suspicion I had felt a few moments ago dissolved into a profound, aching sorrow. She was just another victim of the endless, bloody chess game our family had been forced to play.
"You said the Ouroboros sent you with a warning," I said softly, leaning forward. "What do they want, Kira?"
Kira’s expression darkened, all pretense of calm vanishing. "They don't just want territory, Mara. They found an old archive in Zurich containing the original master ledger of the Moretti syndicate. They know about the hidden offshore accounts, the political leverage, and... something else."

"What else?" Dante prompted, his voice cutting like a razor.
"A digital dead man's switch," Kira whispered. "If the Ouroboros activates it, every classified file, every hidden alliance, and every protected name in this city will be dumped onto the public internet. It would destroy the underworld—and everyone connected to it—in a single night."
