A cold, sharp thrill ran down my spine. Margaret hadn't just helped Daniel cover up the theft of my inheritance; she had used my family's stolen money as collateral to bail out her own failing real estate empire, hiding millions of dollars in plain sight while treating me like an impoverished beggar living under her roof.
