Chapter 16 - The Rain of Fire

In a fraction of a second, the darkness above the pier erupted into brilliant, blinding light.

Four tactical floodlights mounted on silent drones hovered down from the fog, bathing the entire dry dock in daylight intensity. Simultaneously, laser sights from three Marchetti snipers stationed on the surrounding container cranes painted a dozen red dots directly across Thorne's chest and the foreheads of his mercenaries.

"Drop your weapons! Now!" Bruno’s amplified voice bellowed from a megaphone across the water.

Thorne panicked, his finger slamming down toward the detonator button. "Kill them all!"

Before Thorne could depress the switch, Arya didn't hesitate. She drew her pistol with lightning speed and fired a single, perfect shot.

Crack.

The bullet struck the detonator directly in Thorne’s hand, shattering the plastic device into a thousand harmless pieces and tearing through his palm with a spray of blood. Thorne shrieked in agony, clutching his mutilated hand as his mercenaries scrambled in confusion, only to be instantly blinded by the flash-bang grenades dropped by the hovering drones.

Rocco moved like lightning, closing the distance between them, sweeping Thorne’s legs out from under him with a brutal kick and pinning the doctor face-down into the wet concrete with his boot.
