Chapter 19 - Shadows and Sunlight

Back on the Amalfi Coast, the Mediterranean sun painted the cliffs in hues of gold and violet.
The Marchetti fortress was peaceful once again. Inside the nursery, now reinforced with state-of-the-art biometric security, a healthy, laughing one-year-old Leo chased a silver toy across the plush rug while Arya sat at her desk reviewing international medical grants.
A shadow fell across her doorway. She looked up to see Rocco leaning against the frame, a glass of aged scotch in one hand, his tie undone.
"You know, CEO Vance," Rocco teased, a rare, warm smile touching his lips. "Running a global medical foundation and managing a mafia empire makes for a very busy household. Do you have any time left for your favorite criminal?"
Arya stood up, walking over to him and wrapping her arms around his neck, resting her head against his chest.

"I always make time for the men who matter," she murmured, looking up into his dark, devoted eyes. "Though you have to admit—my methods of cleaning up your house were a bit more permanent than yours."
Rocco chuckled, wrapping his strong arms securely around her waist, pulling her close. "You didn't just clean the house, Dr. Vance. You completely rebuilt it."
