Chapter 16 - The Secrets of the Bloodline

The storm raging off the coast of Long Island was battering Montauk with gale-force winds and driving rain.

Adrian drove the custom SUV through the flooded coastal roads, his eyes fixed on the path ahead. In the passenger seat, I checked the small micro-tracker embedded in my watch.

“You’re sure it’s working?” Adrian asked, his voice tight.

“Three months ago, Mia lost Gerald at the park,” I said, a faint, dangerous smile touching my lips. “I sewed a military-grade GPS tracker deep inside Gerald’s stuffing. Julian threw the elephant at me, but he didn't check Mia’s jacket. I put a second tracker in her light-up sneakers last night.”

Adrian looked at me, a flash of pure awe and deep love shining in his dark eyes. “You are incredible, Clara Vance.”

“I’m a mother protecting her child,” I said coldly. “And tonight, nobody gets between me and my family.”

We pulled up to the rusted gates of the Montauk Ironworks. The giant, decayed industrial complex looked like a monster rising out of the stormy ocean waves.

Adrian reached into the glove compartment and pulled out two earpieces, handing one to me. “My private tactical team is hovering two miles offshore in silent stealth helicopters. The moment we secure Mia, I hit this trigger, and they breach the roof.”

“What about Damon?” I asked, adjusting the earpiece.

Adrian racked the slide of his pistol, his face turning into pure granite. “Damon made the biggest mistake of his life when he thought he could use my family against me.”
