Chapter 18 - The Poisoned Crown

Adrian lunged forward, tackling Julian to the concrete floor as gunfire shattered the silence of the warehouse.
I sprinted through the crossfire, sliding across the wet floor and scooping Mia into my arms, shielding her body with my tactical vest. “I’ve got you, baby! I’ve got you!”
Above us, the glass skylights exploded inward as Adrian’s stealth tactical team abseiled down on thick ropes, flashbang grenades detonating in blinding bursts of light.
Damon’s mercenaries were disarmed within seconds. Damon tried to run toward the seawall exit, but Adrian intercepted him, throwing a brutal right hook that sent his half-brother crashing into a stack of iron crates.
Julian scrambled toward his dropped gun on his hands and knees. I stepped out from behind the cover, grabbed a heavy steel pipe from the ground, and swung it with everything I had straight into Julian’s ribs.
Julian collapsed onto the wet floor, gasping for air.
“That’s for five years of child support,” I spat, kicking the gun far out of his reach.
Suddenly, a quiet, sharp click sounded behind us.
Eleanor Kane stepped out from the shadowy doorway, holding a small, silver syringe gun. Before anyone could react, she fired a pneumatic dart straight into Adrian’s shoulder.
Adrian gasped, stumbling backward as he pulled the dart from his neck.

“Adrian!” I screamed, dropping to my knees beside him as he collapsed to the floor, his skin turning dangerously pale, his breathing turning into shallow rasps.
“It’s a synthetic neurotoxin,” Eleanor said coldly, dropping the spent casing. “Designed by my father’s lab. He has twenty minutes before his heart stops. Give me the trust access codes, Clara, or watch your billionaire savior die on this dirty floor.”
