Chapter 10 - Dawn on the EstateTwo weeks later, the Moretti estate was bathed in the warm, golden sunlight of a peaceful Chicago morning.

The iron gates remained closed, but the heavy tension that had hung over the property for years was entirely gone.

Inside the bright, newly renovated nursery in the east wing, three-year-old Lily sat on the rug, happily coloring a picture of a yellow sun with crayons, while Claire sat nearby, sipping chamomile tea and smiling as she looked out over the gardens.

A soft knock sounded at the open bedroom door.

Adrian Moretti stood in the doorway. He had removed his black leather jacket, wearing a simple white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

Lily looked up, blinking her huge brown eyes. "Mr. Adrian!" she chirped happily, crawling over and holding up her drawing. "Look! I drew you a crown!"

Adrian knelt down onto the wooden floor—just as he had done weeks ago—accepting the crayon drawing with a rare, genuine smile touching the corners of his mouth.

"Thank you, Lily," Adrian said softly, patting her tangled dark hair. "I think it’s the best crown I’ve ever received."

Claire looked up at him, her eyes shining with unshed tears of profound gratitude. "Thank you, Adrian. For everything. We don't even know how to begin repaying you."

Adrian stood up, walking toward the window where the morning breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming roses from the courtyard.

"You don't owe me a thing, Claire," Adrian replied, his voice steady and warm. "In this house, nobody knocks on doors alone anymore."
