Chapter 12 - The Whisper in the HallwayThe atmosphere inside the estate shifted overnight. Though the iron security gates remained locked, Adrian doubled the watch patrols and restricted all staff movements outside the main residential wings.

Claire noticed the sudden tension immediately.
While walking down the grand corridor of the east wing with Lily, who was happily clutching her patched-up stuffed rabbit, Claire felt a sudden, chilling draft sweeping through the old stone hallway.
"Mommy, look," Lily whispered, pointing toward a heavy, oak-paneled service door that led to the unused servant archives. "The door is open."
Claire frowned. That door had been welded shut by maintenance orders years ago.
Stepping cautiously forward, Claire pushed the door open a few inches. The room inside was pitch black, save for a faint, rhythmic blinking light coming from a discarded communications transceiver sitting on a wooden crate.
Before Claire could pull Lily back into the hallway, a heavy hand clamped gently over her shoulder.
May you like
Claire gasped, spinning around.
Adrian stood there, his face carved from stone, his eyes scanning the dark archive room with lethal intensity.
